Since I have moved back to the US and sort of settled in to our new home, I guess it is time to start posting on a regular basis again. I must say that moving out of the country is as bad as moving back into the country. The problems I had moving to Malaysia were from the US government and institutions and the problems I had moving back to the US were caused by the government and US institutions. In the next few posts I will try to elaborate a bit on my experiences moving back home.
Before I left Malaysia, I sold most of our belongings and had more personal items shipped back to the US. There was no problem in doing this. I closed my bank accounts and transferred the money successfully. I sold my condo and transferred that money back successfully. The only problem I had a and am still having is getting approximately $1000 transferred from an incompetent shyster lawyer I used to sell my home in Malaysia. For 4 months now he has been coming up with one lame excuse after another as to why he hasn't done it yet, I'm still waiting.
Two days before we were to fly out of Malaysia I came down with flu and thought I was going to die, ever moment of the 36 hour flight! The cough and fever lasted for about 3 weeks and I couldn't go to the doctor because I didn't have health insurance. Welcome home to the land of phenomenally expensive healthcare!
At the airport I went through immigration and was asked how long I was going to stay. How long was I staying? I am an American citizen! I thought I had the right to live here or come back to visit for as long as I wanted! Feeling like crap I really wanted to tell the immigration officer where to get off, but I didn't. I got out of the airport and was welcomed back to American soil by a snow storm. Still suffering with a fever it felt much better than the heat and humidity of Malaysia.
Stay tuned for more experiences of my return home.
