In the past month we have seen a great deal of bigotry and hate unleashed in this country by some of our politicians and a small but boisterous segment of our society mainly directed at Blacks, Hispanics and gay people. Even when the question of same sex marriages was definitely settled by the Supreme Court these same people threatened to defy the Court's ruling and even threaten violence. Racists and bigots have come to rally around the Confederate flag, which has become a symbol of racism and violence while proclaiming their First Amendment rights. It is so hypocritical that these hate mongers are crying our for their First Amendment rights, while fighting to deny others their rights, because they are of a different, race, color, religion or sexuality. Supposed Christians are screaming persecution because they cannot go against everything Jesus taught and have their right to discriminate against whomever they wish. These poor, ignorant but dangerous people actually believe this country was founded on the Bible and that our forefathers intended the country to be a Christian country. These beliefs mainly stem from the teaching of Fox News. These people do not know that the Bible has no mention of the Bible, Jesus Christ or homosexuality! Even if they read the Constitution they still wouldn't believe it.
While Independence Day is upon us once again, these people will be rallying against Blacks, gays, Hispanics, Muslims or anybody who is not a white so called Christian. Decent Americans cannot let them be heard any longer. We must all celebrate together this Fourth of July in the style our country's founders intended. That is to include all Americans, regardless of race color, creed or sexual identity because as it says in the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal". We also remember that in order to found this nation of ours, we had to steal it from Native Americans!
I wish everyone a very safe and happy Fourth of July.
